Low-Cost Food

As the cost of living increases, the need for support does too. Take a look at what is available for the community.

Lunch Club

Homemade soups, choice of filled rolls, and a warm welcome. Free, donations are optional.

12 noon to 1.30pm, every Thursday in the hall behind Castle Douglas Parish Church.

Stepping Stones Community Larder

Stepping Stones Community Larder and Foodbank was formed in August 2023 after having previously been run solely as a foodbank since March 2020.

Open Monday and Friday 10am to 12pm.

Wednesday’s 11am to 1pm.

And Thursdays 5pm to 7pm.

You’ll find Stepping Stones Community Larder located at 9 St Andrew Street, Castle Douglas, DG71DE with its low-cost membership options.

Golden Days

The Golden Day Club is a long-standing group which on Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly, provides an entertainment and lunch facility for the elderly within Castle Douglas Community Centre.

Castle Douglas Community Centre Development Trust has been providing a “Warm Spaces” facility on Fridays since early March 2024, with the last one being on 10th May 2024.

If you are keen to learn how to grow and/or support yourself and your family by planting food, you can visit one of our community gardens.

Stewartry Community Garden

Run by CDDF, you’ll find this gem of a garden located next to Stewartry Rugby Club. They welcome all volunteers and anyone who is keen to learn and grow. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

CDDF Volunteers

Keep an eye out at Heart of Galloway and the Crannog Campus, where CDDF volunteers will plant some pick-your-own-herbs and salads this spring.
