Christmas Light Switch On 2023
Saturday the 25thof December seen the annual Castle Douglas Christmas Light switch on, here down at the new Crannog Activity Centre, Lochside park.
The day was set to be immense fun, as on the schedule there were an array of festive themed activities; free Santo grotto, free face painting, Solway Choir, tombola and craft tables to enjoy. As well as all the fun activities, the monthly Castle Douglas Producer’s Market was held in conjunction with the day, for maximum enjoyment–as well as a spot of Christmas shopping!
The day ran from 12pm, all the way until 5pm, with the light switch on and count down at 4.30pm. A colouring competition leading up to the day, determined the lucky child who got to hit the switch. Not only did the switch turn on the light sat the Crannog Centre, it also switched on the Christmas lights on the main street in Castle Douglas.
The masters behind the great day were Amanda Burney and Steph Wilson from CDDF, who manage the Heart of Galloway, the monthly Producer’s Market and community events like this. As always, they worked tirelessly to produce a fun filled day.
There would have been no Christmas lights of course, without the generosity of the wonderful electricians at Mitchell’s in Castle Douglas, who volunteered their valuable time to put the lights up for the town.
If you are planning on visiting the town during November, or perhaps you missed this switch on this year, keep an eye out for the Christmas light switch on in late 2024–a perfect festive day for the family.
